Our domicilliary care agency, which is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) supports 53 people and employs over 100 staff.
We support people to live in their own homes, with friends or with family. Our services are designed around the needs and wishes of the individual and range from a few hours of support per week to 24 hour support.
People are helped to plan their lives and make decisions with as much
support as necessary. We encourage people to take part in a wide range
of community activities and to develop new friendships whilst maintaining existing relationships. We run
regular service user groups so that services are informed by the people
who use them.
Before we begin to support someone, we spend time with them and their family (if possible) to ensure we have all the information we need to support them well. We find out what is important to and for the person and start to create a person-centred plan which details how the person wants to be supported. It also helps us to understand the person's social health, educational and leisure needs. It is an essential means of making sure we know how the person wants to live their life.
Communication
Staff are well trained and we have our own speech and language therapist to help us to develop communication passports, train staff in total communication, intensive interaction and Makaton. She also works with individuals to ensure their support team knows how to interact with them and help their views to be heard.
Community Development
We employ a community development manager who researches opportunities in each person's area to enable them to enjoy all the facilities and activities that exist. Where specific requests are made, and such opportunities don't exist, she works with local groups and organisations to encourage development of these.
