Style Acre Friends was formed as a registered charity in 1992 by a group
of parents who wanted to secure the future of the residential home where
their adult children were living. They succeeded in raising the money
to purchase the property and took over running the home in 1995.
Since that time the charity has changed considerably and broadened
its approach to supporting people. The residential home was sold in 2004,
and the money raised from its sale was then used to purchase ordinary housing in local towns and villages. This has enabled the people we support to live with their friends within easy reach of Turnstyle, the Style Acre day centre, and local community
facilities.
Style Acre is governed by a Board of Trustees.
The Trustees have appointed a Chief Executive, Kate Liddle, to be responsible
for the running of the charity. Trustees come from a variety of backgrounds and there is always
at least one parent serving as a Trustee at any time. People
who use our services also attend the Board meetings and are encouraged
to share successes and raise issues with the Trustees.
